BornGlobal Announcement

Hello readers,

Well what a few weeks it has been. The beginning of 2008 has been very productive for Softconnection and touch wood, I hope it will continue through out the year.

Last week Softconnection was selected out of a number of companies to receive 2 years internationalization support from the BornGlobal project. What this means for Softconnection is that we will receive professional expertise and financial support in market entry around the globe. We are very pleased with this news because the timing could not be better with SC BackUp being soon released into 13 selected markets around the world. The BornGlobal funding will give some excellent support to this project but it will play a greater hand in the market entry to new countries in the future.

With a positive start to 2008 my expectations for the year also increase so I hope to share some more news with you all in the coming weeks.

The World Mobile Congress Summary

The World Mobile Congress in Barcelona has come and gone once again and in it's wake we are left with new mobile phone innovations and future visions of telecommunication. It is hard to say if the mobile phone market has matured when mobile phone manufacturers keep coming up with new ideas and features with mobile phones.

The major theme that did interest me most of course was the announcements of new mobile phone devices. One can not help to notice where mobile phone manufacturers are focusing a part of their R&D when it comes to new mobile devices. That is the amount of memory available on mobile phones. Nokia announced the release of their new phone the N 96. The most impressive aspect of the new N96 is the 16GB memory the phone has. 16GB is a staggering amount of memory even on a computer but on a mobile phone is mind boggling. Other mobile phone manufacturers are following suite in producing mobile phones with larger memory capacities. The amount of data that will be stored on mobile phones is clearly increasing and with that much data present, securing the data to ensure that all that data will not be lost is essential.

This is of course is where SC BackUp comes into the picture. SC BackUp is a backup tool that allows mobile users to backup their precious mobile phone data. Currently the backup of mobile phone contacts, sms and calendar is possible but in the near future the next SC BackUp versions will allow mobile users to backup much more e.g. pictures etc.

The direction mobile technology is heading it is clear that Softconnection is in the right business. Mobile backup will some day become as important and common as backing up PC's. The future of mobile phone technology is exciting!

New SC BackUp webpages

The newly designed SC BackUp.fi pages are now live!

During the last few weeks the new SC BackUp website has been launched. In cooperation with TietoEnator, Softconnection have developed and given a fresh new look to the new SC BackUp webpages. The new website is a user friendly website that allows users to register and download the SC BackUp software directly to their phones. Also users can now access support information, FAQ and numbers to TietoEnator support centres.The new updated website coincides with the soon to be released latest SC BackUp software.

I am especially excited because the new SC BackUp website is our first tool and channel that will be used to deliver SC BackUp to users globally. All users need to do to receive the backup software is register on SC BackUp.fi and then as soon as register now is clicked they will recieve the software via sms to their phone.

Below I have posted a pic showing my favourite aspect of the new site and that is a picture of the globe which expresses the notion that SC BackUp is backing up users mobile life globally. Also when the flags are clicked SC BackUp's moto is translated to 13 different languages. Keep posted for more big announcements in the near future.

2008, The year ahead

The holiday season has come to an end and now a new year is among us. I hope readers of my blog have had a safe and relaxing Christmas break with family and friends. I sure enjoyed the short break and now am re energised for the year ahead.

2008 is a year of new opportunities for Softconnection. We are planning to really push with the development of the new upgraded version of SC BackUp. I will add a sneak preview pic at the end of this blog entry for those interested in the progress of the client. The main idea of this latest upgrade for the SC BackUp is to allow the activation and registration of users even easier and faster then previous versions. Now first time users can immediately begin to backup their critical data straight after registration. It is not necessary to enter your activation code during first time registration of your SC BackUp account. Only existing users now have to enter their activation code after enter their existing details.

On going upgrades is part of the Softconnection strategy which will make Softconnection mobile soft wares even more user friendly. We believe the hard work in development and sales will give Softconnection the advantage over the closest competitors in Europe.

Sneak preview of the latest SC BackUp version

The importance of Mobile Backup

Reading through countless of articles on the web regarding mobile backup it's easy to see that the number one point argued is that company data is critical and if lost it can cripple a company and it's daily activities. It is said that 50 to 70% of companies that lose company data will go out of business within 1 year of initial data lost. All the contacts, calendar and important txt msgs that are lost are nearly impossible to collect again. On a number of recent studies, contacts, calendar and short txt msgs are still the most desired mobile data to be backed up.

Especially in today's business culture, more and more company's conduct important deals etc using short text msgs. With so much important information being stored in a mobile phone it is evident that it can not be lost and if it is lost it is information that can not be found again.

I have heard many stories of high ranked managers in big organisations who have lost their mobile data involving some sort of mobile phone mishap. The most common one is that they have left their phone in their jacket pocket and then when lent over to pick something up their mobile phone has dropped into the sea or toilet. 6000 mobile phones are lost in Finland alone in taxis, this doesn't include all the other incidents which mobile phones have been lost or damaged. In London 60,000 mobile phones are lost in taxis alone each year, that is a staggering amount of phone data lost.

Today new phones do come with PC Software included which allows the users to transfer mobile phone data to a computer. This said the user must be very close to a computer to use blue tooth technology or connected through a USB cable. This system is run by sync ml technology which means any changes made on either computer or phone will be updated. So what happens if you lose the phone? You can not restore the data to a new phone.

SC BackUp is tool used as an insurance for mobile data, allowing users to backup and secure their important mobile phone data e.g. contacts, calendar and short txt msgs. SC BackUp also allows users to manage their mobile data by transferring their mobile data to another phone. Some many companies and private users are discouraged when contemplating upgrading to a newer phone model. SC BackUp has squashed this concern by allowing users to cross transfer their mobile data into a new supported phone. In just a few clicks all the mobile data stored in a phone will be migrated and stored into a new phone.

My hope is that more people will become aware of the importance of backing up their mobile data.

SC BackUp goes live!

Last week was an exciting time for Softconnection because now SC BackUp, the next generation mobile phone backup, can be downloaded straight to a mobile phone straight from the website http://www.scbackup.fi/.

What started as an idea a few months ago, Softconnection developed a SC BackUp edition that could be downloaded from the website straight to the users phone after registration. Once the user has downloaded the application they can purchase the user rights of the application by paying from the phone. If the user is an existing user all they have to do is enter their user code which they would have received during the first time of activation of the SC BackUp.

This is really our plan at Softconnection in making our mobile applications easy to access and use. With SC BackUp being live on line it is accessible for any user willing to pay only 3€ a month for the application. We now hope to deliver SC BackUp not only to corporations but also to private users all over the world.

Summarising 2007

As 2007 is rapidly coming to an end I will write a short reflection of the year that has gone by so fast again. 2007 has been a promising year for Softconnection with a number of agreements being signed for the global distribution rights of Softconnection's mobile backup software SC BackUp. Throughout the year Softconnection has had some changes with regards to new employees coming on board and a minor relocation of the office.

Some personal changes that occurred in 2007 where that i moved back to my hobby home at the lake side that i built a few years ago. Settling in should be completed before Christmas time this year. I look forward to enjoying the next summer there by the lake.

Even though 2007 has nearly ended it does not mean Softconnection has put it's feet up yet. We are still working hard and I am confident that a number of new agreements will still be finalised and announced by the lastest in early 2008.
